Welcome note

Dear Participants, dear Colleagues and dear Friends,

it is our great pleasure to invite you to Munich to share with us the 15th International Conference on Biomineralization (BIOMINXV).

Biomineralization is as diverse as the organisms that form minerals – from metabolic products to precisely controlled functional tissues. It holds an important place in diverse scientific fields from biology, human health and environmental studies to materials science, influencing industries such as aqua- and agriculture, mining, building material conservation, and the medical realm.

The last decades produced many new insights in the organisms’ role in local and global geochemical cycles, or in composite materials hierarchical architecture and function; the huge progress in deciphering genetic information is increasingly complemented by cell biology studies disclosing the physiological principles of material transport and control of precipitation and dissolution.

The congress will provide a forum for presentation and discussion of the many recent advances and open questi ons, and for stimulation of further productive international collaborations. We were able to attract excellent keynote speakers and we will cover all major branches of mineral-organism interactions. Accordingly, we invite you to submit your cutting-edge scientific contributions. To take advantage of the diversity in innovative contributions we will structure the sessions according to topical keywords that we ask you to provide with your abstracts.

We look forward to seeing you in Munich in the European Union.
